At Hersill, we believe in a more humane healthcare system, where innovation and well-being go hand in hand. That is why we are proud to support the work of the Hospital de Cuidados Laguna in its music therapy programme, an initiative that improves the quality of life of patients and professionals through the power of music.
Hospital Laguna is a benchmark in the application of music therapy in various care units, from the day centre to the paediatric day hospital. Thanks to the integration of this discipline, patients experience improvements in their emotional, physical and cognitive well-being. With sessions adapted to each group, music becomes a key resource for relieving pain, reducing anxiety and strengthening communication.
Our support will allow us to add an additional hour of music therapy per week, which translates into 3 hours per month for patients with neurodegenerative diseases and 1 hour dedicated to self-care for hospital professionals. This increase in sessions represents a significant impact on patients’ lives, as music not only acts as a therapeutic medium, but also as a source of emotional and social connection.
Impact of Music Therapy in different units:
- Day Centre: Helps users to maintain their autonomy and stimulate their cognitive abilities, promoting socialisation and reducing levels of anxiety and depression.
- Hospital: Helps to alleviate pain, reduce stress and improve the emotional response of patients and their families, facilitating recovery and coping with the disease.
- Residence for the Elderly: It favours memory, orientation and emotional expression, at the same time as it strengthens the social bond and the feeling of belonging.
- Cognitive Care Residence: For patients with dementia and other cognitive disorders, music is a bridge to their emotions and memories, improving communication and reducing agitation.
- Paediatric Day Hospital: For children, it relieves anxiety associated with medical treatments, stimulates emotional and social development, and creates a more positive and welcoming environment.
Experiences shared by family members and professionals reflect the positive impact of music therapy. From a patient’s excitement at remembering a childhood melody to the improved cooperation of patients in their treatments, music becomes a link to wellbeing. ‘Seeing my mother smile and sing songs we thought we had forgotten was a deeply moving experience,’ says the daughter of a resident in the cognitive care unit. The medical team also notes that ‘the addition of music therapy has had a significant impact on patients’ emotional response and readiness for treatment.
At Hersill, we will continue to promote initiatives that bring a more human approach to healthcare. Because health goes beyond technology: it is also emotion, connection and quality of life.
