At Hersill, we firmly believe that innovation is not only found in technological advances, but also in initiatives that humanise the healthcare environment and improve patients’ quality of life. That is why we are delighted to support various musical activities organised by Musicos por la Salud, a foundation that has been working for over ten years to humanise healthcare settings through live music, creating an atmosphere of emotional and psychological well-being for patients receiving medical treatment in hospital.
Thanks to this initiative, the Oncology Department at La Paz University Hospital, one of Spain’s leading centres, has had the opportunity to enjoy a musical activity led by Katia Marquez. In this activity, patients are accompanied by different musical performances, which provide them with a space for emotional connection and relief during their recovery process, creating a more humane and comforting environment in the challenging context of a hospital.
In the words of Katia Marquez, a musician who collaborates with the Musicians for Health Foundation: “What we do is go to places where we can transform the atmosphere a little and play songs that may be meaningful to patients. Music has a very special healing power; it allows patients to disconnect from their treatment for a moment and find a space to relax and share emotions with others.”
Music, as a healing tool, plays a key role in improving patients’ moods, reducing stress and promoting a more relaxed and positive environment. It also facilitates interaction between patients, family members and healthcare staff, creating a bond of empathy and mutual support. Maria Antonia Rebollo Gonzalez, Director of Nursing in the Oncology Department at La Paz University Hospital, said: “Our time with music, with you, is very valuable for both patients and professionals. I can assure you that those few seconds that the song lasts are an open space to let your mind wander, to join the rest of the patients and not to forget, but to leave an impact on that difficult time of treatment and thinking about the disease.”
At Hersill, we are delighted to be able to collaborate with projects such as Musicians for Health, which demonstrate that medical care goes beyond conventional treatments. Music has a transformative power which, supported by our funding, helps to humanise hospitalisation and improve the patient experience.
We will continue to support initiatives such as this one that promote holistic wellbeing and emotional health, contributing to a kinder and closer environment for everyone.
