In a hospital, every step matters. Especially when it is taken by a child who does not understand why they are there, or a mother trying to contain her anxiety while searching for the right direction. With them in mind, we have collaborated with the Niño Jesus University Children’s Hospital in Madrid to transform a cold and disorienting journey into a friendly route, full of colour and meaning.
Every action counts. A colour, a sign on the floor or a figure on the wall can make the difference between fear and peace of mind. With this sensitivity, we transform the route from the Emergency Department to Radiology into a more welcoming and friendly experience for the little ones and their families.
Until now, this route lacked clear signage, which generated confusion at an already difficult time. Today, thanks to this intervention, it has become a playful pathway, inspired by the pond in El Retiro Park, with footprints, birds and aquatic plants that intuitively guide paediatric patients, turning the path into a game. “Placing these footprints has clearly improved the flow of patients and relatives, who no longer get lost or have to ask questions all the time,” explains Ruben Grados, supervisor of the Emergency Department. “And for the children, this journey has become a game”.
This initiative not only reduces stress and improves orientation for patients and their families, but also has a direct impact on the daily work of healthcare staff. Clear and intuitive signage minimises the need for constant prompting, allowing doctors, nurses and assistants to focus on what is important: the clinical and emotional care of patients. In addition, the flow of people between the ER and Radiology becomes smoother and more efficient, avoiding bottlenecks and reducing waiting times. Overall, this intervention contributes to creating a more organised, functional and, above all, human hospital environment, in which everyone – professionals, patients and families – feel a little more accompanied.
Technology with a soul
At Hersill we believe that the most valuable technology is the technology that cares without wires. The one that transforms spaces, relieves fear and generates trust. That is why, in addition to designing and manufacturing cutting-edge medical solutions, we are committed to projects that humanize healthcare, especially in environments as sensitive as paediatric ones. The decoration of the hospital environment can make a big difference to a child’s experience,” says our president, Benjamin Herranz Jordan. “We want their time in hospital to be as pleasant as possible. That’s why we put people at the centre, even when there are no devices involved.
Because humanizing technology begins with understanding what those who need it feel. This signposted path at Niño Jesús Hospital reflects our commitment to the emotional health of patients and forms part of our participation in the #Tecnologíasquehacenpaís campaign, which highlights the value of the companies that innovate, manufacture and generate employment in Spain, promoting a more humane, efficient and sustainable healthcare system.
Hersill is part of the Technologies that make a country campaign (#TecnologíasQueHacenPaís), which showcases the technological companies that develop, manufacture and innovate in Spain. Its work is actively contributing to the strengthening of the national technology industry, the creation of jobs and economic progress, while reinforcing Spain’s industrial autonomy to face the challenges of the future.
